
Fred SteppeGeneral Sales Manager
Fred Steppe joined WLTZ-NBC 38 as General Sales Manager in June 2007.
Prior to moving to the Valley, Fred acquired 24 years of broadcasting experience in South Carolina. He began his career in 1983 at WXAX-AM while still a high school student in his hometown of Lexington, SC. His first television job came in 1986 at WIS-TV, the NBC affiliate in Columbia, SC as a part-time Sports Photographer & Editor. He quickly moved up to Reporter and fill-in Anchor, while Majoring in Journalism at the University of South Carolina. In 1988 Fred moved to Greenville, SC where he was a Sports Reporter for WYFF-TV, also an NBC station. He returned to Columbia in 1991 as a Sports Reporter & Anchor at WLTX-TV. Fred spent nearly 16 years with the CBS affiliate, eventually moving from the News Department to hold a variety of positions, including Program Director, Marketing Director, and Sales Account Executive. Fred also starred in the children's TV program "Deputy Billy & Friends" for five seasons. He has produced numerous Television Programs & Specials, PSA's, Promotional Announcements, Award Presentations, and of course, Commercials.
Fred has always been active in the community. He has served in the Jaycees, Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, and Arts Association. He also sang the Chancel Choir at St. Peter's Lutheran in Lexington. He served on the Board of Directors for the Lexington & Richland County Drug & Alcohol Commission for nine years, three of them as Chairman. He has been honored with several volunteer awards, including the Lexington Optimists' Youth of the Year (1983), The United Way Group of the Year (1999), and the SC Public Health Association's Volunteer of the Year (2005). He enjoys playing the piano, football & golf.
Fred and his wife, Lisa, have two children.
